Innere Erfahrung in Spatmittelalter und Fruher Neuzeit

Die vorliegende Studie tritt einem weitverbreiteten Vorurteil uber die Genese der Moderne entgegen: Es besagt, dass das Mittelalter die Epoche der Metaphysik und Ontologie sei, wahrend erst die Neuzeit eine Wende hin zur Erkenntnistheorie, zur Philosophie des Bewusstseins und der Selbstgewissheit vollzogen habe. Dagegen erweist sich, dass zum einen bereits im Mittelalter die Selbsterkenntnis und -gewissheit eine zentrale Stellung innehaben. Zum anderen ist Metaphysik, insbesondere eine Modus-Ontologie, deren Wurzeln bis ins 13. Jahrhundert zuruckreichen, von entscheidender Bedeutung fur Descartes’ Cogito und mithin fur das epistemologische Projekt der Neuzeit.
