Review - French Publiee une premiere fois en 1573, l'Hippolytede Robert Garnier est la premiere tragedie francaise consacree a l'amour de Phedre pour son beau-fils. Le texte retenu pour l'edition presente est celui de 1585. Cette tragedie privee n'ignore ni la politique, ni la religion : derriere le mythe paien, Garnier aborde a mots couverts les questions spirituelles de son temps. Suivant librement le canevas de la Phedre de Seneque, il procede a d'importantes transformations : la beaute de cette oeuvre originale n'a pas echappe a Racine, qui doit beaucoup a son predecesseur.
