English summary: The articles in this conference volume cover the development of Syrian Christianity from the 1st century AD up to the early Islamic period. The topics of the essays start with the Syrians in the New Testament and deal with issues pertaining to the beginnings of the ascetic movement in Syria, the history of the seats of the bishops in West and East Syria and the Syrian sources of Arab Christianity and Judaism. The authors study the theology of God’s spirit among the East Syrians, the martyrdom of the mimes and the Syriac Masora, a new interpretation of the hymn of the pearl. German description: Die Beitrage dieses Konferenzbandes umfassen die Entwicklung des syrischen Christentums seit dem 1. Jahrhundert nach Chr. bis in die fruhe islamische Zeit. Die Aufsatze setzen thematisch bei den Syrern im Neuen Testament an und behandeln Fragen nach den Anfangen der syrischen asketischen Bewegung, der Geschichte der Bischofssitze in West- und Ostsyrien sowie nach den syrischen Quellen des arabischen Christentums und Judentums. Sie befassen sich mit der Theologie des Geistes Gottes bei den Ost-Syrern, dem Martyrium der Mimen und der asyrischen Masora, einer Neuinterpretation des Perlenliedes.
