Der Band kommentiert die mittleren 50 Psalmen. Darunter sind solche, die in Judentum und Christentum groae Bedeutung haben. Alle werden in ihrer individuellen Textgestalt als Dichtung und als Gebet analysiert und ausgelegt. Erstmals in einem Kommentar werden die Einzelpsalmen auch in den Buchzusammenhang eingeordnet, denn der Psalter ist nicht einfach ein Archiv, sondern eine planvoll gestaltete Komposition. Ferner wird die innerbiblische Rezeption der Einzelpsalmen dargestellt sowie erstmals detailliert die Aktualisierung, die die Psalmen in der Septuaginta und im Psalmentargum erhalten haben, beschrieben. Schliealich fasst der Kommentar die bisherige Psalmenforschung zusammen und fuhrt diese in literaturwissenschaftlicher wie in theologischer Hinsicht weiter. Vor allem aber ist es ihm ein Anliegen, die Liebe zum Psalter zu wecken.
