In den Kapiteln 49-54 des Jesajabuches wechseln sich stetig Zionspassagen und Gottesknechtstexte ab. Die noch weithin akzeptierte individuelle Deutung des Gottesknechts ist in diesem Kommentar konsequent durch eine kollektive ersetzt, was nicht zuletzt zu einer Neubestimmung der Teilkomposition Jes 49-54 fuhrt. In Jes 49 prasentiert sich der Gottesknecht als Zeuge, Bote und Verkunder JHWHs, dessen Botschaft aber in Zion auf grosste Skepsis stosst. Der Knecht scheint mit seiner Trostbotschaft zu scheitern (Jes 50), und die Anfeindungen gegen ihn verdichten sich bis zur Toderfahrung (Jes 53). Demgegenuber verheisst JHWH, fur den Erfolg seines Knechts zu sorgen und Zion in Pracht aufzurichten (Jes 54). Mit der erstmaligen Nennung der Knechte im Schlussvers von Jes 54 enden diese Kapitel.
