Lunare Konzepte in den agyptischen Tempeln griechisch-romischer Zeit: Teil 1

English summary: The Moon as a striking celestial phenomenon with its monthly shifting shape has aroused great interest in Ancient Egypt. Victoria Altmann-Wendling draws a detailed picture of the nature and effect of the celestial body personified as a god. This comprehensive analysis is based on all relevant religious inscriptions and representations relating to the Moon. These centrally include texts and iconographic evidence of the Graeco-Roman temples, which provide the most extensive information about the Moon in Ancient Egypt. Papyri, tomb scenes and funerary ensembles offer additional information. The texts are all translated and extensively commented, especially with regard to the underlying astronomical phenomena. The accompanying depictions are analysed and contextualised. Volume 2 provides a diachronic overall analysis of the Moon in Ancient Egypt, dealing with types of representation, designations, and personifications. The practical implementation of astronomical “lunar knowledge” in festive cycles, rituals and cult is analysed in detail. The evaluation leads to an innovative investigation into concepts and images of the Moon. A multitude of attributions and identifications that thematise, explain and evaluate the phenomena and properties of the Moon and its cycle form the background of an ancient Egyptian “lunar symbolism”. Victoria Altmann-Wendling zeichnet unter Zusammenfuhrung aller relevanten, den Mond betreffenden religiosen Inschriften und bildlichen Darstellungen erstmals ein detailliertes Bild von Wesen und Wirkung des als Gott personifizierten Himmelskorpers. Im Zentrum der umfassenden Studie stehen die Text- und Bildquellen der griechisch-romischen Tempel, die die umfangreichsten Informationen uber den Mond in Agypten liefern. Daruber hinaus bieten Papyri, Grabszenen und Funerarensembles weiterfuhrende Erkenntnisse. Die Quellen wurden samtlich, oft erstmalig, ubersetzt und ausfuhrlich, insbesondere hinsichtlich der zugrundeliegenden astronomischen Phanomene, kommentiert. Dazugehorige szenische Wiedergaben wurden zudem einer ikonographischen Analyse und Kontextualisierung unterzogen. Band 2 bietet eine diachrone Gesamtanalyse des Mondes im Alten Agypten, die Darstellungstypen, Bezeichnungen und Personifikationen behandelt. Die praktische Umsetzung eines astronomischen “Mondwissens” in Festzyklen, Ritualen und Kulten wird eingehend analysiert. Die Auswertung mundet in eine innovative Untersuchung zu Konzepten und Bildern des Mondes. Eine Vielzahl von Zuschreibungen und Identifikationen, die Phanomene und Eigenschaften des Mondes und seines Zyklus’ thematisieren, erklaren und bewerten, bilden den Hintergrund einer altagyptischen “Mondsymbolik”.
