Die kultische Interpretation Jesu als Hohepriester, der im himmlischen Heiligtum “ein fur allemal” Versohnung erwirkte, ist im Neuen Testament singular. Mit ihr antwortet der Autor des Hebraerbriefes auf das Problem, dass die Zerstorung des Tempels in Jerusalem das Begehen des biblisch-judisch zentralen Versohnungstages unmoglich machte. Angesichts dessen will er einen besseren, weil nicht zerstorbaren Ersatz bieten. Er und seine Adressatenschaft, eine judische messiasglaubige Gemeinschaft, haben ihren moglichen Ort in der judischen Gemeinde von Alexandria. Der andere Weg, den das rabbinische Judentum im Blick auf den Versohnungstag ohne Tempel genommen hat, wird durch eingeschobene Texte kenntlich gemacht. Der gelegentliche Blick auf Philon aus Alexandria zeigt, dass dessen geistige Welt eine andere ist als die des Hebraerbriefes.
