Meir. Die Nekropole im Mittleren Reich
Eine Archivgrabung
By (author) K. Vogt
English summary: To this day, numerous treasures of ancient Egyptian culture have not yet been recovered. However, they are not only buried under Egyptian desert sand, but also under European archival dust – this applies to a large part of the archaeological documentation of the 19th and 20th centuries. Such is the case with the archaeological records of Howard Carter (1874-1939) and Jean Cledat (1871-1943) on the Middle Kingdom necropolis of Meir, which are now kept in Oxford and Paris. They are published for the first time by the present ‘archival digging’, on the basis of which a major re-investigation of this important site in Middle Egypt is undertaken. The book presents the results of the latest investigations on the once discovered and again buried Middle Kingdom necropolis, where the princes of the 14th Upper Egyptian nome and their entourage were buried. The exemplary features of a site with rock-cut tombs in Middle Egypt are presented, which allow a reconstruction of the overall picture of this funerary landscape and its community.
