Le chapitre cathedral d’Albi est le seul de la France meridionale a avoir conserve une serie successive d’obituaires qui permet de suivre concretement, depuis le milieu du Moyen Age jusqu’a leur extinction au debut du XVIIIe siecle, l’evolution des pratiques de commemoration des defunts au sein de ce chapitre cathedral, mais aussi de retrouver au fil des temps les chanoines et les familles bourgeoises de la ville qui ont choisi pendant un temps la cathedrale et ses chapelles comme lieu de sepulture, avant de se detourner vers d’autres communautes plus concurrentielles, comme les jacobins, les cordeliers ou les carmes. L’edition integrale des textes est completee par d’importantes notes biographiques, une liste des eveques d’Albi, plusieurs index (noms de personne et de lieu, matieres), qui en font un instrument de travail de premier ordre sur la societe albigeoise aux derniers siecles du Moyen Age.
