Le Récit: Thèmes bibliques et variations

The Bible and the stories it tells are probably among the most powerful sources of inspiration for artists throughout the centuries. Painters, sculptors, writers, and filmmakers draw heavily on this vast corpus to feed their own narrative activity. This volume, the result of an interdisciplinary colloquium which saw biblical scholars and specialists in the arts and literature working together, opens a way to go beyond the study of art and literature as mere receptions of biblical narratives and attempts a new approach by endeavoring to answer a double question: how does the work receive and rework the biblical text and, conversely, how does this reception make it possible to detect as yet untapped potentialities in the biblical narrative(s)?

French description: La Bible et les histoires qu’elle raconte sont probablement parmi les sources d’inspiration les plus puissantes pour les artistes a travers les siecles. Qu’ils soient peintres, sculpteurs, ecrivains, cineastes, ils puisent largement dans ce vaste corpus de quoi nourrir leur propre activite narratrice. Ce volume, fruit d’un colloque interdisciplinaire qui a vu travailler ensemble biblistes et specialistes des arts et de la litterature, ouvre une voie pour depasser l’etude de l’art et de la litterature comme simples receptions des recits bibliques, et tente une nouvelle approche en s’efforcant de repondre a une double question: comment l’oeuvre recoit-elle et retravaille-t-elle le texte biblique et, a l’inverse, comment, par cette reception, permet-elle de deceler dans le(s) recit(s) biblique(s) des potentialites non encore exploitees? Autrement dit, comment la lecture d’une oeuvre artistique peut-elle fournir des cles de comprehension nouvelles pour le texte biblique? Il serait souhaitable que l’etude et l’articulation de ces questions permettent de forger de nouveaux outils conceptuels susceptibles de favoriser une lecture basee sur un travail commun d’elaboration du sens et enrichie par la rencontre des points de vue.
