La finale del libro degli Atti degli Apostoli rappresenta per gli studiosi un vero e proprio enigma. Il lettore prova un senso d’isoddisfaazione per la conclusione del racconto, poiche nulla si dice del processo e della morte di Paolo. La reticenza lucana si estende anche al tema dell’evangelizzazione fino ai confini della terra e all’esito del conflitto cristianesimo-giudaismo. Pur senza trascurare tali questioni, il nostro studio intende concentrarsi sul ruolo narrativo conferito da Luca a Paolo. La scelta di terminare la sua duplice opera (Luca-Atti) con l’immagine dell’apostolo che evangelizza a Roma, risponde a nostro avviso a tre istanze narrativo-teologiche: 1) modellato in prospettiva cristologica, Paolo prosegue la missione del Cristo, da cui e stato eletto per divenire testimone; 2) nel ritratto di Paolo, Luca condensa il progetto identitario della cristianita cui egli stesso appartiene; 3) attraverso la descrizione dell’attivita testimoniale di Paolo a Roma, il narratore intende tracciare un profilo esemplare per il suo lettore.
