For the first time, Karl-Heinrich Ostmeyer studies how all the authors of the New Testament were able to translate their specific concepts of the relationship to God and Christ into practice with the help of the terminology of prayer. The complete view of all the authors proves to be a reflection of the diversity of faiths in the first generations of Christians. In dealing with this subject in a systematic and differentiating manner, the author has written a book which can function as a reference work for verbal and nonverbal forms of New Testament communication with God and Christ and is at the same time a compendium of the theologies and Christologies behind the concepts of prayer. Karl-Heinrich Ostmeyer untersucht erstmals fur alle Autoren des Neuen Testamentes, wie sie mit Hilfe von Gebetsterminologie die komplexen Beziehungen zwischen Gott, Christus und den Glaubigen zum Ausdruck bringen. Er zeigt, dass die unterschiedlichen Kommunikations- und die dahinter stehenden Beziehungskonzepte einen unmittelbaren Zugang zu den jeweiligen Theologien und Christologien eroffnen. Die Untersuchung macht deutlich, dass erst die Gesamtschau aller neutestamentlichen Autoren und ihrer unterschiedlichen Gebetskonzeptionen der Glaubensvielfalt der ersten christlichen Generationen gerecht zu werden vermag. Der systematische Aufbau und die differenzierte Behandlung jedes einzelnen der Autoren des Neuen Testamentes machen das Buch zu einem Nachschlagewerk fur die unterschiedlichen verbalen und nonverbalen Formen der Kommunikation mit Gott und Christus im Neuen Testament.
