In biblical traditions, we encounter various concepts of God’s presence. In this context, particular importance is attached to the “concepts of Shekinah,” which allude to the indwelling or dwelling of God in a cult sanctuary or a human community. In this collection of essays, the authors depict the biblical-theological dimensions of the concepts of Shekinah and demonstrate their potential for current reflective processes in Christian and Jewish religious beliefs.
English summary: In biblical tradition we encounter different conceptions of God’s presence. In this context, the concept of ‘Shekinah’ plays a significant role. It assumes the indwelling or dwelling of God in a sanctuary or within a human community. The history of the idea of Shekinah shows how in the building of Old Testament and early Jewish tradition it was possible to process historical religious reorientation and respectively historical events and to modify traditional beliefs (especially during the aftermath of the destruction of the First and Second Temple). This anthology shows the biblical and theological dimensions of the Shekinah concept and illustrates their potential for current research on Christian and Jewish beliefs. German description: In den biblischen Traditionen begegnen uns verschiedene Vorstellungen von der Gegenwart Gottes. Eine bedeutende Stellung nehmen in diesem Zusammenhang ,Schechina-Vorstellungen’ ein, die von der Einwohnung beziehungsweise dem Wohnen Gottes in einem Kultheiligtum oder einer menschlichen Gemeinschaft sprechen. An der Entwicklungsgeschichte der Schechina-Vorstellungen lasst sich ablesen, wie alttestamentlich-fruhjudische Traditionsbildungen fahig waren, religionsgeschichtliche Neuorientierungen beziehungsweise geschichtliche Ereignisse zu verarbeiten und traditionelle Glaubensvorstellungen zu modifizieren (vor allem in Folge der Zerstorung des ersten und zweiten Tempels). Der vorliegende Sammelband arbeitet die biblisch-theologischen Dimensionen der Schechina-Vorstellungen heraus und veranschaulicht ihr Potential fur gegenwartige Reflexionsprozesse christlicher und judischer Glaubensvorstellungen.
