English Summary: Hurrian is an Ancient Near Eastern ergative language which appears in cuneiform texts of various genres (letters, myths, omens, incantations) from the late 3rd until the end of the 2nd millennium BC. With the exception of Urartian Hurrian is not related to any other known language. For a long time, its linguistic discovery was largely based on an almost 500 line diplomatic “Mittani letter”, which had been discovered in Amarna in central Egypt in 1886. However, in 1983, the discovery of Hurrian literary compositions and their Hittite translations in the upper city of Hattusa, provided an opportunity for gaining entirely new insights. The 58 essays and short writings by Gernot Wilhelm brought together in this volume date from 1976 to 2012. In addition to the original reprints, most articles have English summaries and citations that reference recent research.
