This critical edition and scholarly French translation of Strabo’s Geography offers readers an authoritative version of this essential classical text. Intended in two volumes, this first tome presents Strabo’s descriptions of the regions crossed and divided by the Nile, marking the division between Ethiopia and Egypt. The text is accompanied by a scholarly commentary that draws on recent philological and archeological research, augmented by maps and indices. French text.
English summary: This volume presents a panorama of the intense economic, cultural, political, and intellectual exchanges between city-states, kingdoms, and the republics of Italy and Spain in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Contained within this volume are contributions from Italian, Spanish, and French historians and philologists.
