La presentation du livre d’Isaie dans cet ouvrage suppose un renversement des presupposes habituels, qui font du Psautier un sous-produit de l’oeuvre prophetique. En effet, le livre d’Isaie s’est constitue pour contester la doctrine du Psautier concernant la disparition de la dynastie davidique. Le Psautier substitue la dynastie des patriarches a la dynastie davidique (Ps 90-106), puis la reintegre comme fondatrice du culte (Ps 107-150). Le livre d’Isaie conteste ces perspectives en promouvant le serviteur et ses successeurs, avec un transfert des faveurs promises a David a l’ensemble du peuple et en allant meme jusqu’a contester le role d’Abraham. Nous attribuons cette oeuvre aux levites coreites-merarites, en opposition aux levites asaphites qui exercaient clairement le pouvoir dans le temple a l’epoque des livres des Chroniques. Les Coreites-Merarites ont constitue le livre d’Isaie en s’appuyant sur les traditions des livres des Rois et en empruntant a d’autres livres prophetiques. Il s’agit souvent de textes interchangeables, mais des traditions nouvelles sur le prophete ont egalement ete developpees, avec parfois des presentations de ce personnage assez surprenants et inattendues. Les contestations du livre d’Isaie ont largement ete reprises par Jesus, dans le Nouveau Testament, surtout en opposition a ceux qui exercaient alors le pouvoir sacerdotal dans le temple.
