Ein Zeugnis des fruhen kuschitischen Konigtums
Die Stele SNM 1851 vom Jebel Barkal

1920 fand George A. Reisner im Hof B 501 des Amun-Tempels am Jebel Barkal (Sudan) eine in ihrem unteren Teil zerstorte Stele, die sich heute im National Museum Khartum befindet (SNM 1851). Sie galt als fruhes Zeugnis des kuschitischen Konigs Pi(anch)y, der nach Agypten zog und die Grundlagen fur die Herrschaft der 25. Dynastie in Agypten legte. In der vorliegenden Studie von Angelika Lohwasser und Anne Sorgel wird diese Stele erstmalig vollstandig mit Faksimile, philologischer Bearbeitung und historischem Kommentar sowie kulturgeschichtlicher Einordnung publiziert. Besonderes Augenmerk liegt dabei auf der wechselvollen Geschichte der Stele, die bisher zumeist im Schatten ihrer vermeintlichen grossen Schwester, der Triumphstele des Pi(anch)y, stand. So werden intensiv die Frage nach dem ursprunglichen Stifter der Stele, der Phasen der Tilgung sowie ihrer sekundaren Nutzung thematisiert. Dabei kommen auch neue Hypothesen v.a. zu ihrer Entstehung zur Sprache und unterstreichen so die Bedeutung der Sandsteinstele SNM 1851 als bedeutendes Denkmal des fruhen kuschitischen Konigtums.
