After surviving the first century early Christianity faced new challenges. Spreading more and more throughout the ancient world new questions and problems arose. This new religious group had to find answers to questions that would change its self understanding and self consciousness. The answers to these questions should show the way to become a religious movement lasting till nowadays. Often neglected in the history of Christianity the second century was the time in which some important decisions were made and new ways of thinking were developed. This collection of essays presented by a team of international scholars focusses on this important period.
