Bezogen auf die Situation, in die das Werk sprechen will, skizziert er die eigentumliche Sicht der Apokalypse auf Christus und deren Bewertung des romischen Imperiums, konkrete Zukunftsprognose und Hoffnung auf die ewige Gottesgemeinschaft. Die Apokalypse war in ihrer Entstehungszeit ein flammender Aufruf zur Eindeutigkeit im Glauben, und mit dieser Botschaft bietet sie als kanonisches Buch auch eine Herausforderung fur die Kirche heute.
