This volume brings together contributions from the 5th Young Scholars’ Conference on Private International Law in Heidelberg, exploring how digitalisation reshapes conflict of laws and procedure, and offering innovative methodological and regulatory perspectives.

English summary: This volume brings together the contributions of early career scholars at the 5th Young Scholars’ Conference on Private International and Procedural Law, held in Heidelberg in 2025 under the theme “Digitalisation and PIL: Local Connections in Boundless Spaces.” The authors explore how digital technologies challenge the foundations of conflict of laws and procedure. Johannes Weigl and Loic Brehin analyse the conflict-of-law dimensions of the EU’s digital regulatory framework, from GDPR and the DSA andDMA to the Data Act, DGA and AI Act, and demonstrate how classical methods may still offer solutions. Christina Lemke proposes an innovative application of the lex monetae to the digital euro. Piotr Wilinski, Maciej Durbas and Agatha Brandao investigate the use of artificial intelligence in cross-border legal services, alternative dispute resolution and academic research. Naivi Chikoc Barreda turns to online notarisation, a phenomenon still unfamiliar in Germany but of increasing relevance in transnational practice. Finally, Linda Kuschel and Adrian Hemler emphasise that issues such as electronic service of documents and the exercise of judicial functions abroad require international procedural law to reaffirm its foundations in public international law. The volume demonstrates how digitalisation not only generates technical and regulatory questions but also prompts fundamental methodological questions within private international law. German description: Der vorliegende Band dokumentiert die Beitrage der 5. IPR-Nachwuchstagung, die 2025 in Heidelberg stattfand und sich dem Generalthema Digitalisierung und IPR widmete. Die jungen Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen beleuchten, wie digitale Technologien die Grundfragen des Internationalen Privat- und Verfahrensrechts neu aufwerfen. So unterstreichen Johannes Weigl und Loic Brehin, dass europaische Rechtsakte wie DS-GVO, Data Act oder KI-VO einer spezifischen Logik folgen, die die klassischen Methoden des Kollisionsrechts herausfordert und zugleich neue Moglichkeiten eroffnet. Christina Lemke schlagt vor, die lex monetae auf den digitalen Euro auszuweiten. Piotr Wilinski, Maciej Durbas und Agatha Brandao untersuchen die Chancen und Risiken Kunstlicher Intelligenz in Beratung, Streitbeilegung und Wissenschaft. Einen prozessualen Schwerpunkt setzt Naivi Chikoc Barreda mit ihren Uberlegungen zur Online-Beurkundung. Schliesslich verdeutlichen Linda Kuschel und Adrian Hemler an den Beispielen grenzuberschreitender Zustellungen und richterlicher Tatigkeit im Ausland, dass sich das Internationale Verfahrensrecht gerade angesichts digitaler Delokalisierung verstarkt seiner volkerrechtlichen Grundlagen vergewissern muss. Der Band zeigt eindrucklich, dass die Digitalisierung nicht nur technologische, sondern auch grundlegende methodische und normative Herausforderungen fur das IPR mit sich bringt.
