English summary: Detlef Jericke comments on all the locations and sites mentioned in The Book of Genesis, in order of appearance. He discusses various localization options for each entry, providing a more detailed explanation of his suggestions where possible. In addition, he provides a literary-topographic evaluation, discussing the extent to which the use of the toponyms shapes the meaning of the narratives of Genesis, thereby performing what could be called a “topographical staging” of the texts. Jericke also addresses questions regarding the historical background of individual parts of the narrative. Five maps illustrate the results of the topographic investigation.
Dr. theol. Detlef Jericke ist apl. Prof. für Biblische Archäologie (Altes Testament) an der Theologischen Fakultät der Universität Heidelberg und dort Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter beim DFG-Forschungsprojekt »Die Ortsangaben im Buch Genesis«.

"...the strength of the monograph may well lie in the fact that it provides an informed research with regards to the toponyms featuring in Genesis and also in the fact that it furnishes a well-elaborated literary-topographical staging of the place names examined." --Balint Karoly Zaban, Review of Biblical Literature
