English summary: Judean royal ideology is deeply rooted in the ancient oriental koine cultivated in the region and shared its main ideas with the neighbouring kingdoms. Because of the king’s special relationship to the divine world, he was able to look after his subjects: he went into battle armed with divine weapons, fought for law and justice, and carried diverse insignias as symbols of his power. The king is portrayed as cultic protagonist, the mediator of divine blessing, and as being of divine parentage. Reettakaisa Sofia Salo examines the Old Testament Royal Psalms 18, 20, 21, 45 and 72 from a history of religion perspective. In light of the neighbouring cultures, the pre-exilic royal history proves itself to be an integral component of the ancient Orient. The redaction-critical analysis shows that the Old Testament specifics of these psalms first emerged in the kingless time.
