English summary: Gottfried Schimanowski provides an exemplary interpretation of Revelation 4-5, beginning with a reappraisal of Revelation 4-5 as it was dealt with during the last 100 years. The author’s analysis of the text leads him to the theory that the main themes of the visions in the following chapters of Revelation are already discernible here in the heavenly service in motifs as in a powerful prelude. What then follows is merely a further development of these. The author examines the structure, function and purpose of the heavenly worship, which is expressed in the five liturgical texts, and in addition to a number of background apocalyptic texts seldom used in the past, makes detailed use of the Jewish Hekhalot literature for the first time in order to contribute to the understanding of the throne scene. German description: Die Johannesoffenbarung fuhrt in der exegetischen Forschung trotz einer Reihe von neuen Kommentierungen noch immer eine randstandige Existenz. Immer wieder werden Bruchstucke aus den apokalyptischen Visionen herausgerissen und ohne Rucksicht auf den Gesamtzusammenhang des Werkes interpretiert oder auf aktuelle weltpolitische Ereignisse bezogen. Die neue Gewichtung der beiden einleitenden Kapitel der Visionsreihen (Offb 4 und 5) ermoglicht es, einen ganz anderen Zugang zur Botschaft des Werkes zu eroffnen und die restlichen Visionen vom Anfang her zu erschliessen.Gottfried Schimanowski unternimmt die exemplarische Auslegung dieser beiden entscheidenden Kapitel der Johannesoffenbarung und arbeitet zunachst die Forschungsgeschichte der letzten 100 Jahre zu Offb 4-5 auf. Seine Analyse des Textes fuhrt ihn zu der These, dass die wichtigsten Themen der folgenden Visionen bereits im himmlischen Gottesdienst motivisch wie in einem gewaltigen Praludium anklingen und im Grunde spater nur noch weiter entfaltet und verwoben werden. Der Autor untersucht Aufbau, Funktion und Ziel des himmlischen Gottesdienstes, der in den mitgeteilten funf liturgischen Texten zum Ausdruck kommt. Zum Verstandnis der Thronszene zieht er neben einer Reihe von bisher wenig zur Auslegung verwendeten apokalyptischen Hintergrundtexten zum ersten Mal ausfuhrlich auch die judische Hekhalotliteratur heran.
