Das Galilaa der Heiden
Untersuchungen zur Galilaakonzeption im Matthausevangelium

Der Ausdruck “Galilaa der Heiden” (Mt 4,15 bzw. Jes 8,23) wurde lange als zutreffende Beschreibung der religiosen Situation Galilaas zur Zeit des Neuen Testaments angesehen. Die daraus resultierenden Konsequenzen sind weitreichend, besonders dann, wenn ein deutlicher Gegensatz zwischen Judaa und Galilaa angenommen wird. Michael Schroder unterzieht die Quellen einer eingehenden Untersuchung und zeigt, dass eine Heranziehung archaologischer Ergebnisse ein anderes Bild zeigt. Von einem heidnischen Galilaa kann nicht gesprochen werden. Wenn Matthaus vor allem in seinen ersten und letzten Kapiteln viele geographische Angaben macht und Galilaa dabei besonders herausstellt, so verfolgt er damit eine theologische Absicht. Er will aufzeigen, dass Jesus als der versprochene Sohn Davids zunachst dort das ganze Gottesvolk wieder sammelt. Am Ende wird dann Galilaa zum Hoffnungszeichen fur die Volker, wenn auch sie in Christus am Heil teilhaben konnen.
