Die vorliegenden Bande veroffentlichen die Briefe 1 und 2 des ostsyrischen Patriarchen Timotheos erstmals auf breiter Handschriftenbasis und mit einer Ubersetzung in einer modernen Sprache. Diese vergleichsweise langen Texte sind eigentliche Traktate. Brief 1 beschaftigt sich mit der Taufe, insbesondere mit der Frage, ob erneut getauft werden muss, wer von einer anderen Konfession zur ostsyrischen Kirche ubertritt. Brief 2 richtet sich an Bokhtisho’, den damaligen Oberarzt des Kalifen, und widmet sich der Seele. Beide Texte sind wichtige Dokumente fur die Rekonstruktion der damaligen Lehre von der Taufe resp. von der Seele. An Brief 1 ist ein sogenannter Cento angeschlossen, deraus Zitaten von Timotheos zusammengesetzt ist und dessen Tauflehre leicht verscharft. In der Einleitung werden erstmals die ursprungliche Reihenfolge des Briefcorpus und die mutmasslichen Redaktionsvorgange rekonstruiert.
