This book explores an alternative vision and practice of globalization based on the notion of catholicity. The central argument is that while globalization – marked by the hegemony of a single globalizing culture over local cultures and an accompanying vision of unity as uniformity – warrants critical scrutiny or even avoidance, the proper response to it should not be a stark turn towards particularism. Instead, it should adopt a balanced approach that transcends the binary of global dominance versus local resistance, seeking a middle path that respects both global interconnectedness and local distinctiveness, and fosters a mutually enriching encounter between the two. In this respect, the notion of catholicity is employed as providing a viable theoretical and practical framework for such an alternative approach.
