This volume illustrates the outcomes of a complex research, restoration, and enhancement project focused on the Palazzo delle Carceri Nuove in Rome, which currently serves as the headquarters of the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate. The initiative—promoted by the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, through the Special Superintendency for Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Rome and the General Directorate for Museums, alongside the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, the Interregional Directorate for Public Works for Lazio, Abruzzo and Sardinia, and the School of Specialization in Architectural and Landscape Heritage of the “Sapienza” University of Rome—has made it possible to delve into the architectural history of the building, thereby restoring full legibility to one of the capital’s most significant monumental complexes. To complement the redevelopment intervention of the Palazzo delle Carceri Nuove, a permanent exhibition itinerary has been established, seamlessly integrated within a fully operational institutional setting. The display brings together documentary apparatuses tracing the building’s transformations over time, archaeological finds and paintings recovered by the Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, as well as artifacts from the storerooms of the National Roman Museum. Through specialized essays, extensive photographic documentation, and a rich catalogue, the publication traces the history of the Palazzo delle Carceri Nuove from its construction to the present day, documenting a work of major public interest and a particularly significant model of collaboration between administrations, State bodies, and scientific institutions.
