La Place du Prince
Perspective et pouvoir dans le theatre de cour des Medicis, Florence (1539-1600)
by Dorothee Marciak
Adapting pictorial perspective to the theater of the Medici court in the sixteenth century consecrated the apparatus of illusionist representation as instrumentum regni. The “place of the prince” provides an operative image of sovereign power that post-Tridentine political thought would identify as the eye of God.
