Agypten und der Christliche Orient
Peter Nagel zum 80. Geburtstag
edited by Heike Behlmer, Ute Pietruschka and Frank Feder
For good reason, this publication in honor of Peter Nagel’s 80th birthday forms the first volume of the new series Texts and Studies on the Coptic Bible, as Peter Nagel is one of the foremost specialists on the tradition of the Coptic Old Testament, whose most important fields of activity include research into the Coptic language and the culture and religion of Late Antiquity and Byzantine to early Islamic Egypt. In 22 contributions, students and colleagues of the honoree reflect not only the Coptological core topics of his work, but the entire range of his scientific interests, which also include the languages and cultures of the Christian Orient, especially in Syria, Nubia, and Ethiopia, as well as Pharaonic Egypt. Four contributions lead the reader into modern times and the present, thus rounding off the volume.
