Religious education in schools is in a state of upheaval. Among other things, it has to deal with a growing heterogeneity of students’ religious and ideological beliefs, and is going to cope with this by means of didactic and organizational reforms. This is reflected in growing expectations regarding competencies and knowledge of religion teachers that need to be worked on in academic teaching, traineeship and further education. A consultation with participants from these three stages of teacher education has discussed problems and solutions at the invitation of the Assemblies of Protestant as well as Catholic Theological Faculties (E-TFT and KThF), the Conference of Institutes for Protestant Theology (KIET) and the mixed reform committees in management of the Protestant Church in Germany (EKD) in September 2022. This volume documents the contributions and thus offers a dense insight into the current reform of theological-religious education.
