Dieser Sammelband ist der dritte der Graphematik-Buchreihe LautSchriftSprache / ScriptandSound. Er enthalt Beitrage der Graphematik-Tagung an der LMU Munchen im November 2018.Ausser zwei theoretischen Abhandlungen, die eine einheitlichere Terminologie fur Beschreibung und Analyse von Verschriftungsprozessen entwickeln, liegt der Blickwinkel auf unterschiedlichen historischen Schriftkulturen. Aus diachronischer Perspektive werden moglichen Losungen auf die Frage der Verschriftung untersucht. Geographisch gesehen liegt der Fokus auf dem europaischen Kontinent mit seinen zahlreichen Schriftkulturen und Schriftsystemen. Das grosse Augenmerk auf die Runenschrift liegt in der Tatsache begrundet, dass die Graphematiktagung zugleich auch die Modultagung des Langzeitprojekts Runische Schriftlichkeit in den germanischen Sprachen (RuneS) war. Diese Sektion behandelt die runische Schriftkultur von ihren Ursprungen in den ersten Jahrhunderten nach Christus bis zu den regionalen Entwicklungen in England und in Nordeuropa im Mittelalter.
