Bei manchen Themen kommt dabei nicht nur die Anknupfung an das (neu)platonische Erbe (Augustin uber die Zeit, die Konversion, die Schonheit; die Chartreser uber Timaios; Peter Abaelard und Porphyrius uber das Universale und das Einzelne), sondern auch die Relevanz der fruhchristlichen Motive fur die gegenwartige Philosophie (Hannah Arendt und Augustin) zum Vorschein. Das Buch stellt das Denken Augustins in den Mittelpunkt, lasst aber zugleich auch andere lateinische und griechische, patristische und mittelalterliche Autoren zu Wort kommen. Das gemeinsame Interesse aller Studien ist es, die Aufmerksamkeit auf die theologische wie philosophische Aktualitat des fruhchristlichen Denkens zu lenken.
