Der Band dokumentiert Leben und Werk von Personlichkeiten der Pekinger Bekanntschaft des Dichters und Anwalts Hundhausen. Besonders wichtig ist der Journalist Erich Wilberg (1895-1948), dessen unveroffentlichter Gedichtband Jadeperle erstmals abgedruckt wird; mit ihm zusammen gab Hundhausen 1940-1945 eine deutsche Monatsschrift Die Dschunke heraus, deren Inhalt (1259 Nummern) aufgeschlusselt wird. Behandelt werden weiter Wolf von Januszkiewicz-Nathusius (1937), zeitweilig Mitarbeiter der Deutsch-Chinesischen Nachrichten, der Germanist, Ethnologe und Sinologe Diether von den Steinen (1903-954), der Gelehrte und Beamte Yao Pao ming (1931), der Generalkonsul Walter Fuchs (1888-966), die Schauspielerin Rosa Jung und ihre Familie, der Sinologe und Lebenskunstler Jonny Hefter (1890-953) und der Schriftsteller Julius Eigner.
