Der Glaube an den dreifaltigen Gott und seinen universalen Heilswillen bildet den Kern des christlichen Bekenntnisses. In der Geschichte seiner systematischen Entfaltung kommt dem Werk des Origenes von Alexandrien (185-254) bahnbrechende Bedeutung zu. Die vorliegende Studie unternimmt erstmals den Versuch, das Trinitatsdenken dieses wohl bedeutendsten und einflussreichsten Theologen des fruhen Christentums zu rekonstruieren und historisch wie theologisch zu wurdigen. Sie vermag verstandlich zu machen, warum der trinitatstheologische Entwurf des grossen Alexandriners in den dogmatischen Auseinandersetzungen des vierten Jahrhunderts zum Gegenstand heftiger Kontroversen werden konnte.
