Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit Traumen und ihrer (Be-)Deutung in den christlichen Apokryphen. Texte, die Traume schildern oder sich mit ihnen auseinandersetzen, werden aufgefuhrt, die einzelnen Schriften kurz vorgestellt. Traume erscheinen dabei nicht selten als literarisches Gestaltungsmittel. Dennoch stehen ihnen die antiken Autoren meist ambivalent, z.T. auch ablehnend gegenuber. Besonders symbolhafte oder ausgeschmuckte Traume sind eher selten. Drei Traumtexte werden exegetisch ausfuhrlich untersucht und tiefenpsychologisch gedeutet. Dabei wird aufgezeigt, dass moderne Traumdeutungstheorie durchaus auf antike Texte anwendbar ist, und sich das Unbewusste auch in (lediglich) literarisch uberlieferten Traumen niederschlagt. Ziel ist es, Einblicke in die seelische Verfasstheit fruher Christinnen und Christen zu erlangen. Eine zentrale Beobachtung ist z. B., dass stark asketisch ausgerichtete Schriften Traume uberliefern, in denen sexuell aufgeladene Motive begegnen.
