Oedipe Roi incarne le mythe grec le plus radical sur l’homme et la tragedie la plus accomplie du plus classique des tragiques grecs. Condamne par le destin a tuer son pere et a epouser sa mere, oedipe a fui loin de ceux qu’il croit ses parents pour aller tuer un homme au carrefour de deux routes – son pere -, puis epouser la reine de Thebes – sa mere. L’homme aux pieds tumefies parait lentement au seuil du palais: il est seul, en plein jour, face a son peuple frappe par la pestilence. Il poursuivra le criminel qui souille la lumiere du soleil. Son regard exprime la clairvoyance qui lui a permis de vaincre la Sphinx. Mais les trous de son masque annoncent aussi les orbites qu’il percera devant l’evidence: ?dipe rendra son visage conforme a son masque.
