Par positivisme , on entend generalement un mouvement de pensee qui s’opposerait a toute une tradition philosophique d’inspiration metaphysique. Ce livre a pour but de montrer le caractere reducteur d’une telle generalisation en precisant en quoi consistent les projets positivistes et en traitant du rapport du positivisme avec l’empirisme, les mathematiques, la logique et le scientisme. Ainsi pourra-t-on comprendre que la raison principale justifiant la distinction entre le positivisme comtien et le positivisme logique reside dans le fait que, hormis la lutte contre l’obscurantisme et toute explication absolue des phenomenes au profit des explications scientifiques, il est difficile de trouver des points de concordance entre ces deux courants positivistes.
