Parmi les objets d’architecture qui nous entourent, nous distinguons les oeuvres architecturales, auxquelles nous reconnaissons une valeur d’exception. Les oeuvres architecturales etant avant tout des objets d’architecture, inscrits dans une discipline et issus d’une pratique, l’etude de leur mode de production doit etre en mesure de nous renseigner sur leur specificite. Ce postulat est le point de depart d’une enquete semiotique menee avec les outils d’analyse developpes par Nelson Goodman dans sa theorie des symboles. Cette enquete propose, a partir d’une etude du fonctionnement symbolique des documents d’architecture et des significations qu’ils vehiculent, une reflexion sur la comprehension que nous pouvons avoir d’un objet architectural et sur les conditions de son evaluation. Elle s’accompagne d’une analyse de la notion d’idealite formelle chere a l’architecte Louis I. Kahn, ainsi que d’un commentaire critique d’un texte de Neil Leach sur la question de l’esthetisation en architecture.
