English summary: Totalitarian regimes sit at the heart of the twentieth century, defined by their ideological phantasms of total unification of society through violence. This essay examines texts by Orwell and Arendt, among others, to outline the revolutionary character of totalitarianism and its goals of eliminating the spontaneity of humanity. On les confond souvent avec les despotismes qui ont domine l’histoire, ignorant ainsi ce qui les anime et les distingue : un fantasme ideologique d’unification totale de la societe, par une violence inouie visant a faire disparaitre les populations censees etre responsables des crises. Cet essai rend compte du caractere revolutionnaire du totalitarisme, en montrant qu’il s’en prend non seulement a ses opposants reels, mais a l’humanite de l’homme en sa spontaneite. Les textes d’Arendt et d’Orwell etudies montrent ainsi que, dans le totalitarisme, les lois, qui stabilisent les affaires humaines, laissent place a une mise en mouvement permanente de la societe et la realite empirique a la fiction psychotique d’une societe totale.
