The widespread belief about the Chinese origins of modern and contemporary circus still persists today. This is evidently due to the brief flow of knowledge about ancient material and written sources relating to the number, variety and value of the performances – initially Eastern, Egyptian and Cretan then Greek and Roman, documented by the path followed through time by circus practice and the so-called street or public square performance. Italian text.
English summary: The widespread belief about the Chinese origins of modern and contemporary circus still persists today. This is evidently due to the brief flow of knowledge about ancient material and written sources relating to the number, variety and value of the performances – initially Eastern, Egyptian and Cretan then Greek and Roman, documented by the path followed through time by circus practice and the so-called street or public square performance.
