Politique et religion chez Isyllos d’Epidaure

Das einzige Zeugnis des Isyllos von Epidauros ist eine grosse Steinplatte, die 1885 im Tempelbezirk des Asklepios in Epidauros gefunden wurde. Diese Platte tragt einen Text von 79 Zeilen – eine der langsten Inschriften der griechischen Literatur. In Prosa und verschiedenen Versformen erzahlt sie u.a. eine sonst unbekannte Fassung der Geburtsgeschichte des Asklepios sowie das Wunder, das er vollbrachte, um Sparta vor Philippos zu retten. Dieses Buch ist die erste Monographie, die diesem Text seit dem 1886 erschienenen Isyllos von Epidauros von Ulrich von Wilamowitz-Moellendorff gewidmet ist. Der erste Teil besteht aus einer neuen Edition, einer franzosischen Ubersetzung und einem detaillierten Kommentar; den zweiten bilden drei Kapitel uber die Personlichkeit des Dichters, die Datierung der Inschrift und den Gott Asklepios. Eine Sammlung von Inschriften und literarischen Texten in Original und Ubersetzung sowie ein Anhang vervollstandigen diese Monographie, die es sich zum Ziel setzt, den Dichter und seinen Text in ihrer historischen Situation aus literatur- und religionsgeschichtlicher Perspektive zu beleuchten.
