Die Druckerei Froben produzierte im 16. Jahrhundert vier wegweisende Editionen des Flavius Josephus: Sowohl die griechische editio princeps als auch drei sehr populare lateinische Fassungen erschienen bei der Basler Offizin. In dieser Untersuchung werden Entstehung und Rezeption ebendieser Ausgaben rekonstruiert. Auf welchen Wegen gelangten griechische Josephushandschriften nach Basel? Nach welchen Methoden wurden sie von Frobens Mitarbeitern ediert und ubersetzt? Warum wurden diese Editionen zu Bestsellern, und wie wehrte sich die Offizin gegen Raubdrucke? Durch die Beantwortung dieser und verwandter Fragen entsteht eine Fallstudie, welche sowohl zur Uberlieferungs- und Rezeptionsgeschichte des Josephus als auch zum Basler Buchdruck neue Einsichten bieten kann.
