La domanda Perche, o Dio , ci hai rigettati ? (Sal 74,1, cf. 79,5) costituisce il Leitmotiv del secondo e del terzo libro del salterio. Quasi ad inclusione, la protesta contro Dio caratterizza l’inizio del secondo libro (Perche mi hai dimenticato? perche triste me ne vado sotto l’oppressione del nemico ?, Sal 42,10 Perche nascondi il tuo volto, dimentichi la nostra miseria e la nostra oppressione ?, Sal 44,25) cosi come la fine del terzo (Dove sono le tue misericordie di prima, mio Signore, che hai promesso a Davide, nella tua fedelta ? Sal 89,47). IlSitz im Leben storico di questa protesta angosciata e la distribuzione di Gerausalemme e il conseguente esilio babilonese, a cui rimandano i Sal 42-44; 74; 79; 80; 89. Il secondo e il terzo libro si lasciano comprendere come una riflessione orante su questo avvenimento traumatico della storia di Israele.
