Zum ersten Mal uberhaupt liegt mit diesem Band eine zuverlassige Werkbibliographie Lichtenbergs vor, die nicht bloss die Titel samtlicher bis zu seinem Todesjahr erschienenen Schriften diplomatisch getreu mitteilt (darunter auch alle bislang bekannten Ubersetzungen und Raubdrucke vor 1800), dazu jeweils die Abdrucke in den Werkausgaben nachweist, unsichere Verfasserschaften diskutiert und alle erreichbaren zeitgenossischen Rezensionen und Apokrypha nennt, sondern auch zahllose entstehungsgeschichtliche und textkritische Hinweise gibt. Lichtenbergs Periodika, der “Gottinger Taschen Calender” und das “Gottingische Magazin”, sind vollstandig erfasst; unterscheidbar dargestellt ist sein im 19. Jahrhundert wirkungsvollstes Werk: die “Ausfuhrliche Erklarung der Hogarthischen Kupferstiche” mit ihren bis zu sechs unter identischem Titel verbreiteten Auflagen.
