Due to the ecclesiastical and social changes in recent years, church and religious law are facing major challenges and modifications. The editors have therefore developed a new lexicon for church and religious law, the aim of which is to provide users with well-founded orientation and information based on the latest research on the historically grown, applicable law of the churches and religious communities and their legal relationships with the state. The Lexicon for Church and Religious Law (LKRR) appears in four volumes and offers reliable and concise information on the fundamental questions of the internal law of churches and religious communities and religious law in over 2,600 lemmas or key words. In addition to questions of state law and canon law of the Catholic and Protestant churches, central contents of canon law of the Orthodox churches as well as the law of Judaism and Islam are dealt with. The lexicon is committed to an interreligious and ecumenical perspective and gives the user the opportunity to compare the various areas of law. The cooperation of well-known scholars of national law, religious law as well as Catholic, Protestant, Orthodox, Jewish and Islamic law guarantees well-founded and competent information. The lexicon is a reliable and indispensable source of information for both theologians and lawyers in their studies, in science, in state and church administration as well as in pastoral care and professional practice.
