Die Chrestomathie bietet einen Querschnitt durch alle wesentlichen Textgattungen, die in sabaischer Sprache uberliefert sind. Neben den altbekannten Monumentalinschriften auf reprasentativen Schrifttragern wie Stein oder Fels wird auch das in Holz geritzte Alltagsschrifttum berucksichtigt. Die Textauswahl erstreckt sich uber alle Epochen der Sprachgeschichte und spiegelt nicht nur die Vielfalt des sprachlichen Formenrepertoires und der diversen Inschriftenformulare wider, sondern auch die historische und kulturgeschichtliche Entwicklung Sudarabiens in vorislamischer Zeit (10. Jahrhundert v. Chr. bis 6. Jahrhundert n. Chr.). Die in Faksimile und Transliteration dargebotenen Texte werden philologisch kommentiert und durch ein Glossar vollstandig erschlossen. Sie eignen sich daher zum Gebrauch sowohl im Unterricht als auch im Selbststudium.
