This work retraces from the Middle Ages to today the history of a single verse, the decasyllable with a central caesura, calledtaratantara.

Review - French Le decasyllabe a cesure mediane a ete nomme letaratantarapar Bonaventure des Periers. Sa prehistoire est retracee, de laCantilene de sainte Eulalieaux chansons medievales. On le retrouve dans les vers mesures de la Renaissance, notamment chez Christophe de Barrouso et Jean-Antoine de Baif. Apres une histoire souterraine, il resurgit dans la romance avec Marceline Desbordes-Valmore et Musset. Il devient un vers parnassien, mis a mal par la liberation de la cesure chez Verlaine et Rimbaud, puis par l'apparition du vers libre. Il persiste au XIXsiecle sous un aspect nostalgique ou experimental. Les analyses metriques et historiques, relevant de la morphologie poetique, mettent en evidence les liens d'intermetricite entre ces textes et montrent comment une forme peut prendre sens.
