L’Amiral Claude d’Annebault, conseiller favori de Francois Ier
by Francois Nawrocki
The admiral Claude d’Annebault directed the council of Francis I from 1543 to 1547. His life and career testify to a model of government built around one favourite advisor, the cornerstone of the political system and an embodiment of the king’s shadow, cast on the court, council, and entire network of royal servants. This work is based on a thesis which won the Braun-Benabou / Aguirre-Basualdo prize from the chancellery of the universities of Paris in 2010.
