Sie hat als Machtkritik das politische System herausgefordert und zugleich mit gepragt. Sie hat institutionell wie ausserinstitutionell ihre eigenen Formen und Traditionen gefunden und ist ihrerseits Gegenstand kritischer Reflexion geworden. Dieser Sammelband wirft ein Licht auf Stationen und Probleme kritischen Denkens in China vom Altertum bis in die Gegenwart. Seine Beitrage gehen zuruck auf eine Jahrestagung, die die Deutsche Vereinigung fur Chinastudien (DVCS) dem Thema widmete.
