English summary: The 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, the movement that led to the downfall of the imperial court and the founding of the Republic, took place in October 2011. The German Association for Chinese Studies (DVCS) used this historical occasion as an opportunity to reflect upon continuity and radical change throughout China’s history and its present at its 22nd annual meeting in Berlin. The objective was to evaluate the radicalism of political and social transformation. These proceedings contain a selection of the papers that were presented at the meeting at the Technical University of Berlin in November 2011. They provide an impression of the many facets and the amazing congruencies that can be identified in different periods of Chinese history.
